Am I doomed to just dream about panning for gold? I live in Northwestern Connecticut and wonder if history has ever shown gold to be found anywhere in my state. I've heard two stories regarding this, but they could just be old tales. One was about an old man who lived along the naugatuck river in a shack in the 1920's. He used to bring in gold nuggets to pay for purchases, although he never held a job. He said he had a claim along the river. Many people searched for the location, and found an abandoned camp, but it was never followed up on. Another was that gold had been found in the Housatonic River, north of the covered bridge in Cornwall. Has anyone heard of it being found here? Thanks alot.
